Other people find sifting through search results to be slow, annoying, painstaking even, and prefer a more structured, old school style of looking up information. Regardless of which camp you're in, thanks to Igor Olikh you may be able to have your cake and eat it too. Introducing JobPost.co.il Igor is a senior web developer working in Israel at the local branch of MyThings. In his spare time, he launched a website called JobPost. As he explains it- “Many years ago when I was looking for my first job in Israel I built an internet spider to run through Israeli sites (placement companies, outsourcing etc.) and gather the data you see today on my RussianGeek site. I wanted to collect this information for my private use but a friend of mine suggested that I build a new site using this and several other new ideas. Hence, I built JobPost. My old data with the spider is located now on the main page and there are some new services, like: sending your CV, placement companies' data, Israeli companies and in a few days I am planning to open a new feature (all hitech Israeli companies with options for comments, opinions etc.). The above examples are a start, but if you find yourself getting stuck, dont ever be afraid to Google tips and tricks for writing resume accomplishments. But dont forget â€" youre a unique person with a unique history and a unique skill set. Dont settle for the achievements you find online. Instead, write out your own. Consider Non-Work-Related Accomplishments Now, think outside the box â€" or rather, that boxy cubicle you called home at your last job. What notable things have you done outside the workplace? Have you ever volunteered or done something that resembles volunteering? Have you ever been the leader of a group project? If so, howd it go? Have you ever organized an event? Been part of a team that did something great? Participated in events or clubs at school? You didnt just participate in a mandatory event that your sorority held. Rather, you and your sisters raised awareness for multiple sclerosis to an audience of 300 attendees. You didnt just tutor Spanish students. You helped a specific number of students to become better speakers, writers, listeners and readers in a foreign language. The list goes on. Remember, you dont have to have served in the military or traveled the world through the Peace Corps to have a great resume â€" and if you have or plan to do those things, more power to you! No matter where your unique talents and interests have taken you, you have resume-worthy accomplishments. Keep Gathering Accomplishments Just because youre done with school doesnt mean youre out of opportunities to do some extracurricular activities. Its never, ever too late to learn new skills or to hone existing ones, and employers value workers with this mentality. Take a closer look at the preferred skills listed on some job descriptions that interest you. Do you have all those skills? If so, great. Time to hone them even more. If not, thats okay too. Time to learn. Where can you develop and practice skills specific to your field, you ask? Well, that depends. No, theres no Accomplishments Bureau you can visit that stocks all the skills youll ever need for your career, but there is a multitude of options for the worker who genuinely wants to continue learning, improving and â€" bonus! â€" bulking up their resume simultaneously. Everyones preferences on how to do this are a little different, but some common ideas include taking elective(s) at a local or online university, participating in webinars and volunteering. Each of these options has its own benefits. For example, there’s a webinar out there for just about every job skill you could ever need â€" including how to build stronger resumes! Happiness at work leads to success - The Chief Happiness Officer Blog Why is happiness at work important to you and me? I just finished the chapter on that in the happy at work book, and in that chapter I reference a study that shows that happy people are more likely to be successful. Heres some more info on that study: a lot of research has pointed in another direction, contending that happiness is the result of a lot of things ? success at work, a good marriage, a fit body, a fat bank account. But according to psychologists at three universities, thats backward. People arent happy because they are successful, they conclude. Theyre successful because they are happy. The researchers combed through 225 studies involving 275,000 people and found that most researchers put the proverbial cart before the horse. Most investigators, they concluded, assume that success makes people happy. They conclude that happy people are easier to work with, more highly motivated and more willing to tackle a difficult project. Thus, they are more likely to be successful. That fits neatly with a study done several years ago that concluded the main reason people get fired isnt incompetence or unreliability or tardiness or any of the other things that distinguish some of our co-workers from ourselves. Its that they cant get along with their colleagues. Read more about the study here, or read the chapter about why happiness at work matters for people. So not only is being happy at work more fun, it will also make you more successful. Take These 3 Steps First for Career Planning Success Sometimes to get where you are going, you must travel through the in-between times.  Career planning and career management are about taking the next  small step forward.  Sometimes you dont change jobs right away, sometimes the job leads dont pan out, and sometimes the perfect job doesnt actually fit with your work style. However, every position and every opportunity is preparing you for your next small step.  It doesnt feel like it makes much sense looking forward, but when we look back we see our path more clearly and a plan behind it all.  Many times we want to see the road ahead paved with sure signs saying  greatness 5 miles ahead.  Its hard to keep your stamina when you dont see any road signs that guarantee success in finding the right job. The career planning process is about creating those sign posts yourself.  Doing so gives you the encouragement you need to keep going and progressing towards your goal.  What do the next 5 years look like in your career?  5 months?  5 days?  Ask yourself, What can I do next to move myself closer to my dream job?  Here are 3 small actionable items to help you get started: 1)  Appreciate your current position at first glance, this may not seem like an action.  However, if you ever disliked your job or aspects of it, this takes immense effort.  Looking at your current position and appreciating certain parts of what it has to offer can be a great way to start thinking positively.  Begin to see where this job is part of your overall plan. 2)  Write down up to three areas that you would like to develop (areas of improvement), three areas that you believe you do well (current strengths), and three adventures that you dreamed of but never dared (dream big!). 3)  Based on #1 and #2, create a 5-week plan and then follow it!  It can look something like this: Week 1 tell a friend one thing you like about your current job Week 2 research one area that you always dreamed of Week 3 take a career-related assessment (MBTI, StrengthsFinder 2.0, Strongs Inventory etc.) Week 4 go over your results with a friend or career coach Week 5 choose one area of strength and look for ways to use it now Thinking positively, allowing yourself to dream a little, and  following attainable goals  are small steps towards planning your career.  Even if you think you have covered up the animosity from your previous employer, the truth has a way of coming out.  The reverse is also true.  When you begin to use your strengths and talk about your dream job with  friends, you begin communicating for that career to become more of a reality.  Its these small steps that can guide us to the greatness we seek.
